Our Story
A remarkable group of faithful pioneers organized the First Baptist Church of Creve Coeur in 1895 as a
lasting monument to establish a place to spread the gospel and save souls. The original location, about
one block north of the current, was secured with permission of the owner and developed by the charter
members. The present property was purchased in 1941 and the cornerstone was laid on June 10, 1946.
The first service took place two weeks later. The official dedicatorial services were held from October 1-
12, 1947. God’s blessings showered on First Baptist over the years with a consistent increase in
membership, financial stability, and establishment and expansion of programs that promoted growth and
development. Throughout the coming years there would be a host of notable pastors who ordained
deacons and other ministers to carry out the spiritual leadership and support of the members. The longest
tenure of pastorship was held by Rev. James E. Lacy who was installed on February 24, 1980 and served
valiantly and faithfully until his death in 2015. After several months without a pastor, God blessed First
Baptist with our current pastor, Rev. Michael E. Scott, Jr. The church implements its mission through
its various internal and outreach ministries. Beyond our regular Sunday morning worship, First Baptist is
enthusiastically engaged in weekly bible study. Additionally, we provide scholarly encouragement and recognition of our youth, evangelism and discipleship training, feeding the hungry and other outreach ministries. We proudly define ourselves as a praise filled church committed to worshiping God in spirit and truth. We are faithful and forever reminded to focus on the types of worship services and activities that bring God the glory. There have been 122 years of church anniversary celebrations noting the addition of new
members, baptisms, retiring of debt, church trip adventures, collaborations with other churches and
countless fellowship opportunities.
Church Auxiliaries
MOTHER'S BOARD
The Mothers of the church are appointed by the Pastor. They assist the Deaconesses in preparing the Lord's Supper and helping candidates prepare for Baptism. Their faith in Jesus Christ is unyielding; the Mothers of this church are examples to all young Christian women.
USHER BOARD
The Ushers are men, women, boys and girls of all ages.
Ushers make a definite spiritual contribution to the service. Their attitude of warmth and reverence often becomes contagious. They are responsible for ensuring that hymn books, literature and envelopes are distributed to the congregation where available. Members are encouraged to complete CPR/AED training that is certified by the American Red Cross.
WOMEN'S MISSIONARY UNIT (WMU)
The WMU provides home visits to the sick and shut-in with meals, fellowship and worship service. Additionally, it conducts special projects in support of both internal and external ministry. The purpose of the unit is the uplift and support of the spiritual needs of our members.
